Touch can be seen as the most intimate among the human senses. It can express trust, affection and compassion as well as soothe us and calm us down. Touching an object, we can feel if its surface is rough or rather soft and if its material is rigid or flexible. Among other things, we can thus use our sense of touch for detection, orientation, selection and bonding.
Meanwhile, most of our interactions with technological devices are currently restricted to pressing or swiping on glass screens. This is where our project comes into play. Our aim was thus to think of and prototype a functional device that allows touch interactions other than through a touch screen.
In the process, we analyzed a lot of current technologies as well as research and also created a mind map of the possible contexts in which we could place our device. Evaluating our
findings, we decided to design a smart cycling jersey for professional and semi-professional road cyclists that works with a touch handle. It prevents as well as treats neck and back pain through electrical stimulation.
